Vegan & Vegetarian Recipes For Ostomates
Fittleworth has worked in partnership with chef Sylvain Gachot and dietitian Laura Coster BSc (Hons), HCPC Registered, mBDA to create this vegan and vegetarian recipe guide for ostomates.
Laura is an NHS and private practice dietitian who sees patients one-to-one and presents nutrition workshops around the UK. She has held four senior dietitian posts in the NHS and has extensive experience working with patients who have undergone stoma formation surgery.
Sylvain is an experienced French chef who manages a cookery school in Winchester. He was trained in France and has worked in numerous kitchens before taking up a senior role at the cookery school, helping to develop recipes and run classes for the public.
We know that living with a stoma presents challenges, but food doesn’t have to be one of them. The vegan and vegetarian stoma recipes in this guide have been specifically designed with an ostomate’s palate in mind – whether that be the types of meals themselves or the individual ingredients selected.
Please remember that if you are looking to change your diet significantly, then it is always advisable to speak with your registered healthcare professional for guidance.
Some of these recipes feature onion and garlic. If you cannot tolerate onion or garlic well, swap ½ an onion or 1 garlic clove for ½tsp asafoetida – found in most supermarkets and in Asian groceries.
Please pay attention to allergies when cooking these recipes.
