Black Forest Smoothie – Ostomy-Friendly Recipe

This is a great nutritious drink, snack, or pudding that provides two of your five daily servings of fruit and vegetables, 1⁄4 of your daily calcium needs, and feels like a treat!

Black Forest Smoothie

Depending on your tolerance, you can blend the ingredients until smooth and drink straight away. If you prefer a smoother texture, you can pass the mixture through a sieve to remove any ‘bits’ that aren’t as easy to digest. For most people, this can be enjoyed 2-3 times a week, and for those trying to increase their weight, it can be enjoyed daily.

Ingredients

  • 260ml calcium fortified coconut milk
  • 20g cocoa powder
  • 8 pitted dates
  • 100g honey
  • 100g spinach
  • 250g frozen cherries

Method

  1. Take the jug from a blender and add 175ml of the coconut milk.
  2. Add the cocoa powder, dates, honey, spinach and frozen cherries.
  3. Start blending the mix and slowly add the remaining milk until you are happy with the consistency (can adjust to make thicker or thinner depending on preference).
  4. Blend until completely smooth and serve immediately into glasses.
