Welcome to Simple Steps

A recovery exercise programme designed to take new ostomates from surgery preparation right through to post-op recovery. Let us support you in getting back to doing the things you love most.

It is likely you’ll feel apprehensive about what life will be like post-surgery and we understand you may be worried about the changes that lie ahead but rest assured, having a stoma doesn’t have to hold you back.

Our clinical nursing team has partnered with holistic, qualified physiotherapists, The Mindful Physios to curate a four-step exercise plan catered for all fitness levels to help you rebuild your core strength. Whilst exercise may feel daunting, don’t worry – each exercise recommended can be done from the comfort of your own home and easily incorporated into your everyday life. At Fittleworth, your wellbeing if of the upmost importance to us and we want to support you through this transition.

Our Simple Steps programme is divided into four parts which are as follows:

  • Step 1: Pre-op (preparing your body for a stoma)
  • Step 2: Recover (0 – 6 weeks post-op)
  • Step 3: Strengthen (6 weeks – 3 months post-op)
  • Step 4: Return to play: (3 – 6 months post-op)
